HRM Launches Workplace Diversity Week Program

(Friday, September 17/2004)-- Halifax Regional Municipality is again organizing a program in the workplace to celebrate Diversity Week.

Mayor Peter Kelly, Chief Administrative Officer George McLellan and Deputy CAO Dan English will officially launch the program at a ceremony in Halifax Hall on Monday morning. The media is invited to attend.

A number of other activities and events are planned.

The purpose of Diversity Week, to be held September 20-26, is to:

  • Increase understanding of the role diversity plays in the HRM workplace,
  • Raise awareness of the barriers facing the members of different communities within the HRM workplace,
  • Identify ways to support and increase diversity: and
  • Celebrate the benefits diversity brings to the HRM workplace.
