Halloween 2004

(Monday, October 18/04)-- Halifax Regional Municipality is receiving a number of calls from residents regarding the celebration of Hallowe’en on a Sunday this year (October 31).

HRM advises residents that Hallowe’en is a tradition or an observance (i.e. St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day etc.) and not a civic, provincial or statutory holiday. Therefore, Regional Council does not have the authority to choose the day, or to advise citizens when Hallowe’en is to be celebrated.

In the past, Hallowe’en in HRM has always been celebrated on the day on which it falls.

Thank you.
