Point Pleasant Park Recovery Planning Process Begins
(Friday, October 1/04)--
Halifax Regional Municipality and Southwest Properties are moving
forward with the public consultation process and design competition
for the recovery of Point Pleasant Park.
Members-at-Large for the Point Pleasant Park Design Competition
Steering Committee are being sought to form part of a working group
of key stakeholders and experts to facilitate public consultation
workshops and to develop a design competition for the park.
“We are seeking ideas to restore the character of the park
within a framework of ecological sustainability and sensitive cultural
resource management, as well as to ensure that the park's future
reflects the desires and aspirations of it’s users. ”
said Peter Bigelow, Manager of Real Property Planning.
The public consultation process and international design competition
has been made possible by a $100,000 donation by Southwest Properties
of Halifax.
“We have the opportunity to look at the park with fresh eyes
and to try to make it the best park it can be for ourselves and
future generations. At the same time, it is important to renew Point
Pleasant in a way that respects and builds on its history,”
said Jim Spatz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Southwest
Properties.
Steering Committee membership applications are being accepted until
October 18th, with the first meeting scheduled tentatively for the
end of October. For further information on the steering committee
