Voter Turnout Heavy, Steady at Polls

(Saturday, October 16/04- 17:30 p.m.)-- Voter turnout was heavier than usual in today’s municipal election in Halifax Regional Municipality, with most polls reporting a steady flow of voters throughout the day.

Polls will remain open until 7 p.m. this evening, and election returns will be available soon after on the HRM website at www.halifax.ca

In addition, returns of ballots cast within HRM for the provincial government’s plebiscite on Sunday shopping will also be available on the municipal website.

EastLink Television will also carry election results via a feed from HRM's web site

Returns will be posted as they are called in by the Deputy Returning Officers. Ballots cast will be counted in the following order: Election for Mayor, Election of Regional Councillors, Election for Halifax Regional School Board and the provincial government’s plebiscite on Sunday shopping.

HRM advises that specific questions about Sunday shopping and the provincial plebiscite should be directed to Service Nova Scotia at 424-5200 or 1-800-670-4357.
