Dog Owner Fined $800.00

(Tuesday, May 10, 2005) - A Lower Sackville pet owner was fined $800.00 for failing to license his dog and allowing it to run-at-large.

Jason Call, of Lower Sackville, was fined on the two charges in Provincial Court.

A dog is considered to be running at large under By-law D-100 Respecting the Registration and Regulation of Dogs, if it is off the property of its owner and is off-leash. To reduce the risk of dogs illegally running-at-large, residents are urged to:

? Make sure your dog is unable to leave your property off-leash and unsupervised.

? Keep your dog on a leash when off of your property.

? Take your dog to a designated off-leash area for exercise.

Residents who witness dogs running-at-large, are asked to file a complaint with HRM Animal Control Services at 468-9219 seven days a week, 24-four hours a day. Outside of the core area, they may call toll free 1-888-468-9219. They may also e-mail their complaint to animalcontrol@ns.aliantzinc.ca . They are asked to provide the following information: date, time and location of the offense as well as a description of the dog.
