Atlantic Immigration Conference set to go from May 15th-17th
(Friday, May 13, 2005) – Halifax, NS - The Atlantic Mayors’ Congress is hosting an immigration conference from May 15 to 17, 2005 at Pier 21and Pier 22 in Halifax.
The goal of the Atlantic Immigration Conference is to find ways for communities in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador to work together and learn from each other in an effort to make this region more attractive and welcoming to immigrants.
The conference will provide a forum for immigrants, settlement associations, universities, government policy makers, NGOs, researchers, businesses and employers in Atlantic Canada to explore best practices and discuss how to adapt these practices in this region.
Keynote speakers include Sheila Copps, former deputy prime minister and political commentator; Glen Murray, former mayor of Winnipeg; John Ibbitson, Globe and Mail political columinist; Diane Francis, National Post columinist; and Lee Cohen, a Canadian lawyer who specializes in immigration and human rights.
