Councillor Wants Continued Recreational Use of Harbour

(Monday, August 29/05)-- District 6 Councillor Andrew Younger will host a public meeting later this week to gather citizen input regarding future recreational use of the Halifax Harbour and other saltwater bays and inlets in light of the municipality’s new Regional Plan.

Under the auspices of the Regional Plan and Harbour Plan, Councillor Younger wants to ensure there will be continued access to the harbour and other waters by residents for such recreational uses, as boating, kayaking, fishing, scuba diving and swimming.

“Although its not definitively spelled out in the Regional Plan now, we want to make sure that citizens will have at least the same access to our cleaner harbour waters once the Harbour Solutions Project is completed,” he said. “ A number of residents have expressed their thoughts to me that there should be even greater access to the harbour and other bodies of saltwater for recreational uses enshrined in the Regional Plan.”

Members of the Regional Plan and Harbour Planning Team will be in attendance at the meeting.
