Show Your Roots!
Celebrate HRM Workplace Diversity Week, September 11 - 17

(Friday, September 9, 2005) - Halifax Regional Municipality employees are celebrating Workplace Diversity Week next week (September 11 - 17). The theme this year is Show Your Roots and it features workshops, pot luck luncheons, office decoration contests and much more.

“Show Your Roots is designed to get people really motivated to share who they are, and what they bring to the workforce, with their colleagues and co-workers. We’ve had a great response to the theme,” said Charla Williams, Coordinator of the Diversity Programs at HRM.

Louis Coutinho, HRM’s Director of Human Resources, said “Although we keep diversity front and center each day in our workplace, this is the week we get to celebrate the measures we’ve taken to promote greater awareness of Workplace Diversity among our employees and to lay the groundwork for future initiatives.”

The kick-off event for Diversity Week will be:

When:  Monday, September 12, 2005

Time:   10 AM to Noon

Where: Halifax Hall, City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street

Media are invited to attend. There will be light refreshments and presentations by HRM employees and staff, as well as comments by Acting Chief Administrative Officer, Dan English.
