Bedford Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Drive -
Skills Expose & BBQ - September 18th from 10-3
(Thursday, September 15, 2005) - Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency advises residents of Bedford that they will be hosting a Skills Expose at Bedford Place Mall on Sunday, September 18, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to recruit residents of Bedford to become volunteer firefighters.
There will be static displays and an information booth. There will also be a BBQ and a skills expose where the public can test their abilities with common firefighting skills such as putting on gear, dragging a hose, and using a breathing apparatus.
Becoming a volunteer fire fighter means being part of a team that fights fires, saves lives, conducts rescues, assists with fire prevention, administers first aid, and helps the community. The Fire service is dedicated to saving lives and protecting property through fire prevention, suppression and public education.
Qualifications to become a volunteer fire fighter include: living within the district, physically fit, available for training once per week, grade 12 or equivalent, a clean criminal record, and a driver’s abstract demonstrating safe driving habits.
Benefits to volunteers include learning new skills, serving your community, self satisfaction, and future career opportunities. The fire service provides uniforms, protective equipment and free training.
Firefighting is one of the most rewarding professions in the community. If you believe you have what it takes to meet the challenges of our business, we invite you to join us on September 18th. For further information, please contact 490-5530.
Remember, You can make a difference!
