Councillor Thanks Province for Contribution
(Thursday, September 22/05)--Councillor Andrew Younger (East Dartmouth - The Lakes) today extended thanks to Tourism and Recreation Minister Rodney MacDonald for the province’s contribution of $1.1 million to the East Dartmouth Recreation Centre.
The announcement was made at a public information meeting held in Dartmouth last evening for the proposed centre.
“This project has been a dream of this community for well over a decade,” said Younger. “The confidence the province has placed in this community is overwhelming. I also would like to thank Mayor Peter Kelly and my fellow Councillors, as well as HRM staff, for their support and the confidence they have put in the community of East Dartmouth with the municipality matching contribution of $1.1 million towards the project as approved in HRM’s 2005 Capital Budget.”
The Councillor said Premier John Hamm visited with members of the community centre society earlier in the year, as well as ACOA Minister Joe MacGuire. In addition, Dartmouth - Cole Harbour MP Mike Savage is working to secure federal funding to complete this important project.
“This project, and this funding, would not be possible without the hard work of dedicated volunteers who have spent countless hours working to secure funding,” said Younger. “We owe these volunteers, and the HRM staff who have worked on this project, a debt of gratitude. I look forward to continuing to work with them as we move into the design and construction phase. After so many years of waiting, this project will be a reality.”
