Downtown Halifax Road Construction

(Friday, September 23, 2005) - Attention motorists, continued Harbour Solutions Project related construction on Upper Water St. will require the existing four lanes on Upper Water St. to be narrowed to a two lane two way street, near the Karlsen Shipping building, with traffic diverted to the current southbound lanes.

The duration of construction is approximately 1 week. During this work, traffic traveling north on Upper Water Street passing Casino Nova Scotia will be limited to right turns only.

As part of related work, on or about Monday, September 26th, a partial road closure will be in effect from the intersection of Upper Water Street and Barrington Streets, near Casino Nova Scotia & Karlsen Shipping, to the intersection of Barrington and Cogswell Street. Traffic traveling north on Barrington will be diverted up Cogswell. Traffic traveling south on Upper Water will be reduced to single lane traffic. The duration of construction is approximately 1 week.

Motorists are also advised that Harbour Solutions - Source Separation work on Hollis Street between Morris and South Streets is continuing. This section of road will be accessible to local traffic only. Sidewalks will remain open. Truck and vehicle traffic is asked to please use alternate routes. The total duration of construction is approximately 5 weeks.

The hours of work for both projects will be Monday to Friday from 7 A.M. to 6 P.M., with some weekend work as required.

Experienced traffic control personnel will ensure smooth traffic flow. On site personnel will also maintain communication with local residents and businesses to help minimize impacts.
