Sod-Turning for New Artificial Turf Field in Dartmouth

(Tuesday, October 11/2005)-- An official sod-turning to mark the start of construction on the new East Region Artificial Sport Field will be held this Thursday.

The new all-weather artificial turf field, a $4 million project jointly funded by the all three levels of government under the Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Program, is being built on lands at the corner of Commodore Drive and Spectacle Lake in the Burnside Industrial Park.

When completed, the complex will be comprised of two lighted artificial fields, one of which will be sized to meet the needs of football. This new addition into HRM's inventory of premiere sports facilities will assist in meeting the growing demands of soccer, football, rugby, and other field sports in the Eastern Region and beyond.

Among the dignitaries expected to attend the ceremony are Mayor Peter Kelly, Dartmouth area Councillors, Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Barry Barnet and Dartmouth Member of Parliament Mike Savage.
