Workshop to Focus on Non-Motorized Forms of Transportation

(Friday, November 4/05)-- Growing concern over the price of gasoline, high insurance rates, expensive downtown parking, traffic congestion and the more important issues of active healthy living and protecting the environment have many residents thinking about alternate means of transportation.

As a result, participants from throughout the Maritime Region will be attending a one-day workshop next week in Cole Harbour to discuss issues related to traffic demand management. Among the topics expected to be raised is active transportation (AT), which is use of any non-motorized, self-propelled mode of transportation.

HRM is in the process of producing a draft Active Transportation Plan for the municipality, so the discussions are expected to be very helpful to the team preparing the plan.

The workshop is one of a number of workshops being held across Canada by the Association for Commuter Transportation of Canada, with funding from Transport Canada and support from regional hosts.

When: Tuesday, November 8, 2005

Time: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Cole Harbour Place, 51 Forest Hills Parkway, Dartmouth
