Local Park to be Named After Longest-Serving Alderman

(Monday, November 14/05)-- There will be an official ceremony tomorrow to name a local neighborhood park after the late Nick Meagher, the longest serving Alderman in the former City of Halifax.

Organized by District 14 Councillor Sheila Fougere, family, friends and former colleagues of Mr. Meagher will gather at the park on Tuesday at the corner of Dublin Street and Chebucto Road, Halifax, for the commemorative ceremony.

Mr. Meagher passed away on June 28, 2003, at the age of 79.  He was a popular and respected pharmacist at Dunsworth’s Pharmacy on Quinpool Road. He was also considered the most successful municipal politician in the history of Halifax, representing the former Ward 4 in Halifax’s west end for 33 consecutive years. In 1995, he retired from Halifax City Council undefeated.
