Show Your Culture, HRM Revised Cultural Plan Available to Council Feb. 28
(Tuesday, February 14, 2006) - After weeks of public consultations and compiling feedback, the Cultural Advisory Committee (CAC) has released a revised draft of the HRM Cultural Plan to the public. The revised plan will be presented to Regional Council for their feedback and approval during the regular Council session on February 28, 2006.
“With this revised Cultural Plan, we feel we have reached our goal of representing our communities’ vision and strategy for how HRM’s cultural assets will be managed and developed for years to come,” says Sue Uteck, District 13 Councillor and Chair of the CAC.
“HRM has done a great job so far of showing its culture: giving us feedback and helping us revise the plan. But we still need everyone to become familiar with the plan and understand what it means for HRM,” said Uteck.
Last year, in February 2005, Halifax Regional Council authorized the establishment of the Cultural Advisory Committee to develop a Cultural Plan to help guide the region’s future cultural development. The Plan, which encompasses rural, suburban, and urban areas, recognizes culture as the foundation of HRM’s social vitality and economic development. The Cultural Plan goals & objectives were approved by Council in September 2005. The results of the Public Consultation were presented to Council in December, 2005, along with the first draft of the Plan which was circulated to Council and the public.
