Mayor Apologizes for Safety Error
(Thursday, March 2/06)-- Mayor Peter Kelly today issued a public apology for failing to wear a safety helmet and proper protective equipment while using a skate board at a public event yesterday.
Mayor Kelly attended a ceremony on the Halifax Common on Wednesday to accept a contribution from a skate board manufacturer, West 49, towards the cost of a new skate board park on the Commons.
Mayor Kelly admitted that he was caught up in the spirit of the event and hopped on a new skate board to try it out, but forgot at the time to ask for a helmet and protective pads.
“I did it without thinking and set a poor example. For that, I apologize,” he said. “ As part of this apology, I have made a donation to the IWK Foundation’s Child Safety Link fund.”
