Memorial Tribute to Police Commissioner Gregory North, Q.C.
(Wednesday, March 15, 2006)-- Mayor Peter Kelly, on behalf of Halifax Regional Council, Chief Frank A. Beazley and RCMP Superintendent Gordon Barnett, today extended condolences to wife, Susan, and the family of Gregory North, Q.C., Chair of the Halifax Regional Police Commission, who passed away this week..
Commissioner North was sworn in as a Commissioner of the Halifax Regional Board of Police Commissioners on August 19, 2002 and was elected Chair on March 10, 2003.
“Commissioner North’s passing is not only a great loss to the Board of Police Commissioners, but to our community as a whole. He played an integral role on the Board, and provided sound leadership and guidance to ensure our citizens received exemplary policing, “ said Mayor Kelly. “ He had a true passion for policing and was very much a part of the extended police family. He will be sorely missed by Council, our policing personnel and the HRM legal community.”
He added “ We urge the media to respect the privacy of the North family at this most difficult time.”
