Centennial Rink Staff to be Recognized for Safety Record

(Thursday, May 4/06)-- District 10 Councillor Mary Wile today extended congratulations to Rink Manager Poteri and the staff of the Centennial Rink who have operated for 39 consecutive years without a Workers Compensation claim.

To mark the occasion, they will be receiving an award from the Nova Scotia Workers' Compensation Board at the rinks’ Annual General Meeting on June 19, 6:45 pm. at the Centennial Rink, 27 Vimy Avenue, Fairview.

Councillor Wile, who serves on the board with Deputy Mayor Russell Walker and District 16 Councillor Debbie Hum, said the Centennial Rink has been operating for 40 years, so it is quite significant for Mr. Poteri and his staff to be claim-free for 39 of those years.

“This is Occupational Health and Safety Week so we are very pleased that the Centennial Rink is being recognized as one of HRM’s safest work places.” Councillor Wile said. “
This is certainly good news for HRM and shows the public how conscious staff are in maintaining and running their facilities safely.”
