Mayor Kelly to Speak at Emergency Preparedness Conference
(Monday, May 8/06)-- Mayor Peter Kelly will be among the guest speakers in Ottawa on Tuesday participating at the Conference Board of Canada’s 2nd Public-Private Sector Summit on National Security.
Mayor Kelly will participate in a panel discussion, entitled “Emergency Management in Canada: the Dynamics and Jurisdictions of Partnerships to Prepare for the Worst.”
The Mayor, who Chairs the Big City Mayors Caucus Working Group on Public Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness, will speak from the perspective of “What Help Do Cities Need?”
Mayor Kelly has been advocating for some time that Canadian municipalities, who are usually the first to respond to any public emergency or natural disaster, should have a seat at the table of the ongoing federal/provincial discussions regarding funding initiatives for emergency preparedness in Canada.
As a result of Mayor Kelly’s attendance at the Ottawa conference, he may only be contacted by telephone tomorrow for requests from the media regarding his reaction to the Nova Scotia Budget, scheduled to be tabled in the Legislature on Tuesday. He may be contacted tomorrow at 222-9999.
