Council Approves HRM’s Share of Proposed International Bid Budget

(Tuesday, May 9/06)-- Halifax Regional Council was given a thorough briefing by the Halifax 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid Committee today and unanimously approved
HRM’s portion of the proposed International Bid budget.

Deputy Mayor Russell Walker said Councillors had an opportunity to ask specific questions of the Committee regarding the bid budget and process and were given detailed answers.

“Over the next week, staff will prepare a report identifying the funding source for the next meeting of Council,” he said. “The next step then will be for HRM and the province to submit the International Bid budget to the Government of Canada for approval.”

The Bid Committee told Councillors that once all three governmental funding partners have approved the International Bid budget, it will be made public, as agreed, by the Halifax 2014 Board of Directors.

The Deputy Mayor said today’s meeting established a process with the Bid Committee to help Councillors gain greater access to Bid and budget details.

Deputy Mayor Walker said previously provided information was reviewed at today’s session, and resource information was provided to Councillors for updating constituents.
