(Thursday, May 11/06) -- The sweet sound of music, and not political rhetoric, is drifting from the corridors of power at City Hall today, as a variety of HRM junior high school bands show-off their talent for a local television production..
The students are performing in Halifax Hall as part of a joint initiative between the Halifax Regional School Board, EastLink Television and Halifax Regional Municipality. EastLink Television is video taping six school musical groups from across HRM, and these performances will be aired during future Regional Council meeting broadcasts.
Our first group was on-site at 8:15 a.m. today, and other groups arriving throughout the day. The largest group boasts 74 participants, with each of the remaining groups numbering between 20 to 40 members.
Mayor Kelly said the idea for the youth talent broadcast came from District 22 Councillor Reg Rankin, and HRM was pleased to offer Halifax Hall at City Hall as the venue for the broadcast taping.
The media is invited to visit the musical performance taping throughout the day and speak with the talented young musicians
