Korean War Veterans Memorial Garden Planned

(Tuesday, May 16/06)-- The Korean Association of Nova Scotia (KANS) is working with HRM to develop a memorial garden in honour of Canadian veterans of the Korean War.

District 10 Councillor Mary Wile said HRM supports the project and has given permission for the garden to be built in Stratford Way Park in Clayton Park West. It will feature a memorial plaque, gazebo, picnic area and many Roses of Sharon (the national flower of Korea) and other shrubs.

The official ground-breaking ceremony for the Korean Garden will take place this coming Thursday.

When: Thursday, May 18, 2006

Time: 10 a.m.

Where: Stratford Way Park, Turn right off of Lacewood on to Radcliffe. Turn left at the first street (on Radcliffe), which is Stratford Way. Park is on the right 3/4 way up on Stratford.

Note to Editors: To date, the Association has raised close to $18,000.00 of its $30,000 goal for the project. A Korean Festival will take place at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts on Sunday, May 21st at 3:00 p.m. to help raise additional funds. Highly respected artist soprano Sung-Ha Shin-Bouey and piano, violin, flute and other Korean traditional music and Korean traditional dance performers and artists have generously donated their talents. Korean art and craft will be displayed in the reception area and there will also be the opportunity to taste typical Korean delicacies.
