Bluenose Marathon
(Friday, May 19/06) -- Councillor Sheila Fougere today urged residents of District 14 to turn out on Sunday and show their support for the participants in this year's Bluenose Marathon.
Thousands of runners, young and old, are taking part in the series of runs scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. The finale is the 42 kilometre marathon that winds its way through the streets of Halifax and Dartmouth.
The 42 km. run begins Sunday morning in front of the Old Town Clock on Brunswick Street and Councillor Fougere said the runners should be reaching District 14 on Connaught Avenue, from Quinpool Road to Almon Street, between 10 a.m. and noon on Sunday.
"I know the runners will be thrilled with people along the route cheering them on, and it will give them that extra incentive to hang in there and complete the grueling run. Hopefully, there will be residents lining the streets along the entire route, to show that the people of HRM support the Bluenose Marathon," she said.
Marathon organizers are still looking for volunteers to assist with the weekend activities. For more information about this and other details of the Bluenose Marathon, please visit the website at information@bluenosemarathon.com.
(Eds Note: Councillor Fougere, who has been a strong supporter of the Bluenose Marathon, is celebrating a milestone birthday this year and she will be participating in her first full marathon ( 42 kms.) on Sunday. Signed. John O'Brien)
