Bike Helmets for Needy Kids
(Tuesday, June 6/06)--- HRM, in partnership with Canadian Tire JumpStart program, will be providing bike helmets at no cost for children and youth from families in need of financial assistance.
Bike helmets will be made available to those eligible at local HRM recreation centres for children and youth, simply by filling out an HRM Kids application form. This municipally-funded program provides financial support to economically disadvantaged families, so that children and youth can participate in recreational programs and services.
Canadian Tire JumpStart has provided tremendous financial support for the HRM Kids program in the past year. It has already committed funds toward the program this year.
HRM Partners in Policing (Halifax Regional Police and RCMP) will help promote the availability of bike helmets at local recreation centres, as they continue to enforce safe biking practices. The wearing of a bicycle helmet is mandatory for bicycle riders of all ages.
Bicycle riding and its health benefits, for all ages, is being celebrated during Bike Week in HRM this week.
