HRM Bicycle Advisory Committee Promotes Education for Cyclists

(Wednesday, June 7/06)-- As part of the on-going events of Bike Week in HRM, Councillor Sheila Fougere will welcome Peter Haidelmayer, national examiner and instructor of the CAN-BIKE program, to City Hall today.

CAN-BIKE is a program developed by the Canadian Cycling Association to educate cyclists across Canada on safe, effective cycling. Members of Halifax Regional Police and HRM Recreation staff who are recent graduates, as instructors, of the CAN-BIKE program will be on hand at the event. Also in attendance will be Ike Whitehead, Executive Director of Bicycle Nova Scotia, and Jody Conrad, from the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection, sponsors of the program.

When: Wednesday, June 7, 2006

Time: Noon

Where: Grand Parade, in front of City Hall

Information on the CAN-BIKE program will be available to the public and the media.
