Street to Be Re-Named in Memory of Community Leader

(Wednesday, June 21/06)-- A portion of Gerrish Street in Halifax, between Maynard and Gottingen Streets, is being re-named “Buddy Daye Street” in memory of the former Canadian Lightweight Boxing Champion, community activist and the first Afro-Nova Scotia Sergeant-at-Arms to serve the Nova Scotia legislature.

Mayor Peter Kelly, District 12 Councillor Dawn Sloane and members of Mr. Daye's family will officially unveil the “Buddy Day Street” sign tomorrow on site.

Where: Corner of Gottingen Street and Gerrish Street
