Lake Echo and Long Pond Beaches Closed to Swimmers

(Monday, July 17, 2006) – The HRM-supervised portion of Lake Echo and Long Pond Beaches are closed to swimmers due to water quality problems, effective immediately.

Regular testing performed by the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment at HRM’s supervised beaches showed high bacteria levels in the water at Lake Echo and Long Pond beaches. "No Swimming" signs have been posted and Beach Program staff will remain on duty during regular hours to advise the public of the closure.

HRM thanks the public for its cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience.

For further information on HRM Beach conditions, the public can call 490-5458.
