HRM Not In Negotiations With Sensations Cabaret Owner
(Thursday, July 27, 2006) - Mr. Javis Roberts, the operator of Sensations Cabaret in Dartmouth, has recently made several statements in the media alluding to the fact that he is in negotiations with HRM Staff to purchase the Sensations building and re-zone the property, or do a land swap of the Sensations building for some HRM land.
These statements are not correct. HRM staff is not in negotiations or discussions with Mr. Roberts regarding the Sensations Cabaret property.
District 9 Councillor, Jim Smith said, “Staff are not negotiating with Mr. Roberts to buy Sensations, relocate Sensations, do a land swap, sell him any land nor are we considering a re-zoning of the property. These statements by Mr. Roberts are misleading and incorrect.” Councillor Jim Smith also stated, “HRM has not yet determined if the operation of the "Den’ is a legal non conforming use. HRM 's legal department is expected to make a decision on any possible charges next week.”
Mr. Roberts has informally enquired with HRM Staff from Real Property & Asset Management and Planning & Development Departments about a specific piece of property, though he has not made any specific offer.
If Mr. Roberts makes an offer to purchase HRM land, it will be dealt with in the normal manner and be brought to HRM Regional Council.
