HRM Councillors Fund New Speed Radar Monitor for Cole Harbour RCMP Detachment

(Friday, August 4, 2006) Due to recent complaints from the public about speeding in the area, an “RU2 Fast” 950 Radar Speed Display Trailer was recently purchased for the Cole Harbour RCMP patrol area from funds allocated by HRM Councillors Harry McInroy, Bill Karsten, Becky Kent and David Hendsbee.

" This project started two years ago, when I proposed to authorize District Capital Funds from District 4, Cole Harbou,r in order that the Cole Harbour RCMP Detachment would have this very useful and effective Speed monitor unit available for use here in Cole Harbour,” says Councillor Harry McInroy. “When the councillors from the other areas served by this detachment expressed an interest in sharing in the acquisition cost, it just made sense. I'm very pleased to see this come to fruition and to know that traffic safety in our communities will be enhanced by its use."

This Speed Radar Monitor will enable RCMP to track and record the speed of vehicles in this area and enhance the safety of the public, as well as, educating motorists about the speed they are traveling. This unit has the capability of displaying the speed of a passing vehicle and flash and emit a “SLOW DOWN” signal at preset speeds. It can also be used for traffic surveys to assist the RCMP and the Traffic Authority in determining appropriate speed controls, signage and enforcement times.
