Red Means “Stop”on the Armdale Rotary
(Friday, August 25/06)-- Even though the new rules for traffic using the Armdale Rotary are in effect, motorists are advised that they still must obey the traffic signals before entering the circle.
Changes last year to the provincial Motor Vehicle Act state that motorists approaching a rotary or roundabout must yield to traffic already in the traffic circle. However, some motorists are incorrectly under the impression that traffic signals on the Armdale Rotary no longer must be observed.
During the peak morning travel times, traffic travelling inbound on the St. Margaret’s Bay Road must observe the traffic signals and stop when only a red light is displayed.
Traffic must remain stopped until the red light/green arrow display on the traffic signal appears, then yield-on-entry may resume.
Likewise, during the peak afternoon travel times, outbound traffic on Quinpool Road must observe the traffic signals and stop on a red light. Once again, traffic must remain stopped until the red light/green arrow display on the traffic signal appears.
These signals are in place to improve traffic flow through the Armdale Rotary during peak times.
Motorists are advised that when travelling on roundabouts or rotaries equipped with mechanized traffic signals, they are obliged by law to obey those signals.
