Mayor Kelly to Welcome World-Renowned Humanitarian
(Friday, September 8/06)-- Mayor Peter Kelly will officially welcome His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to Halifax Regional Municipality at City Hall on Sunday.
His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a world-renowned humanitarian, peace advocate and spiritual teacher whose programs for personal, professional and community development have reached over 300 million people around the globe. He is the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to serving society by strengthening the individual. Established in more than 146 countries, the Foundation is the world’s largest volunteer-based educational and humanitarian organization.
Halifax has played a unique role in bringing His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s vision to North America. His Holiness first travelled to Halifax in 1986, teaching numerous workshops for stress elimination, the promotion of health and happiness, and establishing Halifax as the Art of Living Foundation’s first North American chapter. The Art of Living has touched the lives of thousands of people in the Halifax region through its involvement in the community and its vibrant presence on the city’s university campuses.
This visit to HRM is part of a world-wide "One World Family" tour in celebration of the Foundation's Silver Jubilee. The Foundation will hold other events in HRM during the visit, including a day-long seminar of yoga for health and happiness, a public talk and meditation.
