Fougere to Speak at National Health Conference
(Friday, November 3/06)-- Councillor Sheila Fougere will be among the speakers at the second annual national conference of the Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada (CDPAC) being held in Ottawa next week.
Councillor Fougere joins panellists Mary Bush, Director General, Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion, Health Canada; Ontario Health Promotion Minister Jim Watson; and Michael Weil CEO, YMCA. They will discuss and identify tangible actions and suggested policies related to chronic disease prevention.
Councillor Fougere said today she intends to touch on initiatives that can be taken at the local government level, using local examples such as HRM’s Regional Plan; its proposed Active Transportation Plan; its Smoke Free Places by-law and various public policy and workplace initiatives.
The mission of CDPAC is to foster and help sustain a co-ordinated, countrywide movement towards an integrated population health approach for prevention of chronic diseases in Canada through collaborative leadership, advocacy, and capacity building."
The conference is being held November 5- 8 at the Westin Hotel Ottawa.
