Citizens Urged to Serve on HRM Tax Reform Committee
(Monday, November 6/06)-- HRM is looking for citizens interested in exploring alternatives to the current municipal tax system.
The municipality is now accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the new Tax Reform Committee. Members will work closely with Regional Council and staff to develop a public participation plan; carry out an evaluation of the current tax system; and recommend alternative types of taxation or fees.
Selected members must be willing to serve for the duration of the Tax Reform Project, which is expected to be 12 to 18 months, and be prepared to attend frequent Committee meetings
Persons interested in serving on this Committee are encouraged to submit a letter of interest to the municipality. The letter should include any relevant information, such as a knowledge or interest in municipal finance or taxation, or previous committee experience. The deadline to submit applications is November 15th.
