89th Anniversary of Halifax Explosion

(Tuesday, December 5/06)-- District 11 Councillor Patrick Murphy says new signage, a new interpretive panel and landscape improvements will highlight the 89th annual memorial service for the Halifax Explosion tomorrow at Fort Needham Hill.

Councillor Murphy said HRM has carried out a number of improvement at the historic site during the past year and that work will continue. Improvements include a new walkway, tree pruning, installation of flower beds, new signage and the new interpretive panel.

“I want to express our sincere thanks to Janet Kitz, who has written books and reports for periodicals about the Halifax Explosion, for giving freely of her time to put together the information that appears on the interpretive panel,” he said. “The Halifax Explosion killed thousands, injured many thousands of others and levelled the north end of the city. It’s important we continue to observe this memorial ceremony each year.”
