District 12 Tree Lighting, Kwanzaa Celebration Planned

(Monday, December 11/06)-- Councillor Dawn Sloane says organizers are planning for a huge turnout tomorrow evening for the annual Christmas Tree Light-Up in front of the North End Library.

Councillor Sloane says Her Honour, Mayann Francis, Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia, donated the tree to be decorated and lit by the local community. The lights on the tree will be officially switched on at 6:30 p.m. Hot chocolate will be available and all are welcome to attend.

Following the tree ceremony, the North Branch Library will host a Community Kwanzaa Celebration inside the library, beginning at 7 p.m. The St. Patrick's- Alexandra School African Drummers and Dancers will be among the entertainers.

Councillor Sloane says MLA Maureen MacDonald (Halifax Needham) will be among those attending the ceremony.
