Councillor to Host Neighbourhood Town Hall Meeting on Graffiti Vandalism

(Monday, January 22/07)--Councillor Debbie Hum will host a town hall meeting this evening regarding graffiti, vandalism and other inappropriate activity taking place in Hemlock Ravine Park, Ecole Grosvenor-Wentworth Park School and the local area.

"These ongoing, senseless acts are becoming more prevalent and serious, especially in our neighbourhood parks, playgrounds and other public and private properties in the community,” says Councillor Hum. “The purpose of this meeting is to raise public awareness about these issues and find ways we can work together to find strategies to address these problems.”

Councillor Hum says she wants residents to know what HRM and Halifax Regional Police are doing to tackle these issues, but also engage their support through crime prevention programs, such as Neighbourhood Watch.

The meeting is open to all interested residents, but particularly directed to those living in neighbourhoods abutting on Hemlock Ravine Park and Ecole Grosvenor-Wentworth Park, including the Kearney Lake Road/Dunbrack/Parkland Drive area, Prince's Lodge, Wedgewood Subdivision, Grosvenor Road/Castle Hill/Downing/Julies Walk/Armstrong Court, Dakin Drive, and Cresthaven Estates.

Representatives of Halifax Regional Police, HRM Community Response Unit, Municipal Operations and Community Development will be in attendance.

When:    Monday, January 22, 2007

Time:      7 pm to 9 pm

Where:   Ecole Grosvenor-Wentworth Park School Library, 4 Downing      Street, Halifax.
