Media Briefing

Joint Public Lands Study

(Monday, February 26/07)-- In light of the great amount of public and media attention potential future uses of the former Infirmary lands and the former Birk’s site have generated during the past few years, HRM staff will hold a technical briefing for the media tomorrow regarding recommendations being brought forward to Regional Council by the consultants who conducted the Joint Public Lands Study.

It should be recognized that these are recommendations ONLY-- any decision on the future use of these lands must be made by the respective landowners ( the Province and HRM) through the approval process by the provincial Cabinet and Regional Council.

In other words, don’t expect any sod-turning ceremonies on these two important sites in the next week or two.

The presentation by the consultants tomorrow will be Council’s first opportunity to discuss the study’s findings.

Reporters attending the briefing will also be given an update on the HRM Urban Design Project.

The media briefing will be held prior to the Committee of the Whole meeting.

When:  Tuesday, February 27/07

Time:    11:30 a.m.

Where: Media Room, Lower Level, City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax.
