HRM seeks input on parking issues

(Thurday, March 1, 2007)—Do parking issues affect your transportation decisions? If so, HRM wants to hear from you.

“Public input is essential to develop a strategy for parking in HRM,” says Roxane MacInnis, Planner with HRM. “We want to hear from people who consider parking an issue when making transportation decisions – that’s residents, commuters, businesses and interested stakeholders. We will address options, issues and future objectives.”

Parking affects all residents of HRM. Too little parking can affect transportation accessibility and business viability while too much parking can impede progress towards a more sustainable Region.

The Regional Parking Strategy will examine a variety of parking issues and will incorporate Transportation Demand Management (TDM) practices as part of the strategy. TDM policies and programs are also being developed within HRM to encourage a shift from single occupant vehicle trips to more sustainable modes of transportation. The two strategies are linked because changes in parking policy and provision may ultimately impact how individuals choose to travel.

Sessions will be held at the following locations and times:

•    Dartmouth High School cafeteria, Monday March 5th 2007 from 6:00 – 9:30 PM.
•    Queen Elizabeth High School cafeteria, Wednesday March 7th 2007 from 6:00 – 9:30 PM.
•    Sackville High School cafeteria, Thursday March 8th from 6:00 – 9:30 PM.
