Downtown Halifax Road Construction

(Friday, March 9, 2007) - Attention motorists, on-going Harbour Solutions Project construction on Sackville Street between Hollis and Lower Water Streets has reduced Sackville Street to single lane traffic.

The expected duration of construction is 5 weeks.

The sidewalk on the south side of the street will be closed for the duration of the work. The sidewalk on the north side of the street will be open at all times. No parking will be available in the work zone.

Also, beginning on or after Wednesday, March 14th, 2007 Lower Water Street from Sackville to Prince Streets will be closed. The expected duration of construction is 8 weeks.

The pedestrian access will be maintained.

Please note, all shops and services adjacent to the work zones, will remain open during the construction period.

Truck traffic traveling north on Lower Water Street from Terminal Road and Marginal Road should use the alternate truck route on Morris Street.

All other traffic traveling north on Marginal Road and Lower Water Street will have alternate routes via Terminal Road, Morris Street and Bishop Street with a final alternate route via Salter Street. Lower Water Street from Salter to Sackville Street will be local traffic only.

Traffic traveling south on Lower Water Street from George Street will be detoured via Prince Street.

Traffic traveling east on Sackville Street towards Lower Water Street will be required to “Right Turn Only” for the duration of the work.

Businesses located on Lower Water Street between Salter and Sackville Streets will be required to exit south on Lower Water Street towards the alternate route via Salter Street.

The construction both areas is a continuation of previous activity. This pre-commissioning work will complete final connections to the new sewage collection system infrastructure allowing for the diversion of flows to the Halifax Wastewater Treatment facility later this year.

No loss of municipal services is anticipated during the construction.

The hours of work will be Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm, with weekends as required.

Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. On site personnel will also maintain communication with local residents and businesses to help minimize disruption.

We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary Harbour Solutions Project construction may cause.
