Downtown Halifax Road Construction

(Monday, March 19, 2007) - Attention motorists, beginning on or after Tuesday, March 20th on-going Harbour Solutions Project construction on Upper Water Street, in the area of Casino Nova Scotia and the former Karlsen Shipping Building, will require the reactivation of the traffic diversion ramp in the area.

The expected duration of construction is 5 weeks.

The diversion ramp will be for southbound traffic only turning off Upper Water Street headed towards Casino Nova Scotia and Purdy’s Wharf. Traffic leaving the Casino and Purdy’s Wharf areas and headed northbound will continue to use the existing routing modified by a short traffic ramp near the intersection. Due to reduced sight lines there will be Right Turns Only at this intersection. A section of the northbound lane of Upper Water Street will be single lane traffic.

Please note, all shops and services adjacent to the work zone will remain open during the construction period.

The construction is a continuation of previous activity in the area. This pre-commissioning work will complete final connections to the new sewage collection system infrastructure allowing for the diversion of flows to the Halifax Wastewater Treatment facility later this year.

No loss of municipal services is anticipated during the construction.

The hours of work will be Monday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00pm, with weekends as required.

Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. On site personnel will also maintain communication with local residents and businesses to help minimize disruption.

We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary Harbour Solutions Project construction may cause.
