Councillor Requests Review of Seniors Housing

(Thursday, March 22, 2007) Councillor Dawn Sloane District 12 (Downtown-Halifax) is requesting an independent review of the Metropolitan Housing Authority on the heels of a media investigation regarding the poor quality of life standards at Sunrise Manor.

“I am requesting the Provincial Government provide an independent review regarding the state of the senior housing in the municipality due to the numerous complaints I’ve received from the seniors of Sunrise Manor and other Manors within District 12. It is incumbent of me to advocate for the residents and to request an investigation of their complaints and concerns,” said Councillor Sloane.

The recent complaints of drug dealing, prostitution and poor living accommodations highlighted by a local television station and the complaints to Councillor Sloane from residents who reside in some of the seniors manors in her district have initiated this request from the Councillor.
