HRM Jumps on Board Passport to Safety Program

(Monday, March 26, 2007) - Halifax Regional Municipality has signed on to support the Passport to Safety Program. Passport to Safety is a national health and safety awareness test, which aims to revolutionize thinking among youth about on-the-job safety. Passport to safety participants challenge an on-line, no-fail “test” that provides a basic level of workplace health and safety awareness for students entering the workforce. Students earn a transcript verifying completion of the test to attach to their resumes.

“Safety is one of HRM’s core values and our Municipality is a trusted leader in occupational health and safety. We are pleased to be the first Municipality in Nova Scotia to be a recognized Passport to Safety employer and proud to support the protection of young workers both in our community and across Canada, “stated Roy Hollet, Deputy Chief Director of Safety and Strategic Initiatives. We hope that other municipalities and companies will join HRM and support this progressive program.

As the first Municipality to become a Passport to Safety employer in Nova Scotia, HRM will lead the way in encouraging other municipalities to raise the bar in providing a safer work place for everyone.
