Youth Mural Unveiling at Lakeside Community Centre

(Friday, March 30, 2007) – Students from Ridgecliffe Middle School and Sir John A. Macdonald High School, with the support of HRM Community Recreation and HRM Mural Artist Kate McLennan, are pleased to invite the community to join them for the official unveiling of their Community Mural this Saturday, March 31, 2007.

The mural, located at Lakeside Community Centre (tennis court), was created as part of the Community Art Pilot Project, a joint initiative to implement the Graffiti Management Plan and Cultural Plan. The Community Art Pilot Project brings together youth and emerging urban artists in the creation of murals (and other creative art works) as a deterrent to graffiti vandalism. It also aims to engage young citizens and communities in raising awareness of the strong connections between graffiti management, community art and civic pride.

Following the unveiling ceremony, Councillor Reg Rankin will join community members as they gather for a reception at the Centre.
