HRM to Green Old Dartmouth Museum Property on Wyse Road

(Friday, May 4, 2007) HRM will be advertising a tender on Saturday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 9, for the demolition of the old Dartmouth Museum building at 100 Wyse Road and the greening of the site. The building is surplus and has not been used for some time. It has a number of problems, such as, mould and is unsuitable for use as a public building. The structure will be demolished and the site will be prepared for grass.

The work on the site will begin sometime in July of this year and continue for four weeks. In addition to the demolition of the building and the greening of that area, the existing asphalt walkway through the property from Alderney Drive to Wyse Road will be replaced with new asphalt and 24 of the existing parking spaces, plus two handicapped spaces, will be retained on the east side of the site, with the other portions of the former parking areas being grassed over. The existing landscaping and trees are to be protected and will remain.

During the four week construction period, the work site will be surrounded by construction fencing. In the interest of public safety, existing Dartmouth Common gates bordering the work site will be locked for the duration of the project. There are no expected interruptions to traffic in the area during this construction.

This space is part of the Dartmouth Common and the project will improve the appearance and accessibility of the park.
