HRM Celebrates Tree Planting in Point Pleasant Park

(Friday, May 18, 2007) –Halifax Regional Municipality is celebrating the arrival of 15,000 new seedlings for planting in Point Pleasant Park this season and will host a tree- planting event on Tuesday, May 22nd at 11:00 a.m.

Nine different species of trees will be planted next week in four areas of the park: the area south of Fort Ogilvy, bordered by Prince of Wales Drive and Sailors Memorial Way; the area between Heather Road and Sailors Memorial Way, behind the Sailors Monument; the area north of Heather Road, and; in the area south of Maple Road and west of Cambridge Drive.

Workers will begin preparing the site on Monday May 21st. No pathways will be closed, but heavy equipment and workers will be present in these areas. HRM asks the public to use caution and stay on all paths and trails to avoid damaging any of the newly- planted seedlings.

Among those attending the ceremony will be Mayor Peter Kelly, Deputy Mayor Sue Uteck, and members of the Point Pleasant Park Advisory Committee and the Friends of Point Pleasant Park.

TIME:      11 a.m

WHERE   Meet at lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park by Shakespeare  by    the Sea building at 10:50 a.m.
Park Patrol vehicles will be present to provide transport for those who need assistance.  Planting area will be off Prince of Wales Drive, below Fort Ogilvie
