Many Methods Available to Provide Input on Municipal Tax Reform
(Wednesday, May 23, 2007) -- Attending one of the several public workshops scheduled for the next few weeks isn’t the only way in which residents and businesses can express their views on HRM’s current property tax system and offer suggestions on how it might be improved.
Halifax Regional Council and the Tax Reform Advisory Committee want to make it as convenient as possible for as many residents and businesses to make their views known on the important issue of tax reform.
Aside from the public meetings, which begin this evening, residents and businesses may also make their views known by:
? calling the phone messaging system at 490-4886
? faxing 490-5622
? e-mailing taxreform@halifax.ca.
? by writing to Tax Reform, P.O. Box 1749, Halifax, NS, B3J 3A5
More detail about the Tax Reform Process can be found at www.halifax.ca/taxreform.
For the next two weeks, HRM will host a series of public workshops throughout the Region. Citizens will be asked to work through various scenarios to determine the best methods for dealing with issues surrounding the municipal tax system. Ideas gathered will be used to propose options for rebuilding HRM’s municipal tax system.
In the Fall of 2007, more consultations will take place throughout HRM to showcase tax reform options, and to gather additional input from residents. Information on locations and dates for these consultations will be released later in 2007.
