Top Interim Priorities for Musquodoboit Harbour

(Wednesday, May 30, 2007) Musquodoboit Harbour’s Community Liaison Group encourages residents and community groups to join them this Saturday, June 2nd to review results from the first public meeting in the Community Visioning process to ensure that identified priorities are representative of community needs and to develop a plan to turn the community’s ideas into action.

Musquodoboit Harbour is one of the first three communities taking part in HRM’s Community Visioning process - a way to engage local residents in a dialogue on what their community should look like, feel like and be like up to 25 years into the future.

Over 150 residents came together for the first Community Visioning Event in April. Top interim priorities identified included services (including transit and sidewalks), affordable housing (especially for seniors), recreation and the economy. Others included the look of the village, protecting the environment, and youth.

This event will feature an Ideas Fair, focussed workshops related to the priority areas, and small tours to address aesthetics at key sites in the village core. The program will give residents and community groups an opportunity to work on goals identified at the first meeting in details and address implementation. Groups wishing to book tables for small displays can call 490-1359. This is a family- friendly event and free activities for children age 5 - 12 will also be offered by HRM Recreation Staff.

What:  Musquodoboit Harbour Community Visioning: Workshop & Ideas Fair
When:  Saturday, June 2nd, 12:30 pm to 5 pm
Where: Eastern Shore District High School, West Pepeswick Road, Musquodoboit Harbour

It is anticipated a draft report of the results of the visioning process will be available by end of June, and a final report will be presented to the HRM Regional Council by the end of September.

For more information, residents are encouraged to visit www.halifax.ca/visionhrm, and to post their thoughts and responses on several topics through the VisionHRM online forum.
