Get out, Check it out! Walk-Bike-Hike HRM launch and
Saturday Morning Trail Tours
(Friday, June 1, 2007) - Saturday June 2, International Trails Day, rain or shine, HRM Community Recreation Services and HRM Trails will launch their new Get out - Check it out walk/hike/bike HRM initiative: a user-friendly guide to getting out and being active on HRM’s beautiful trails and pathways.
"Getting out on trails in HRM to bike, hike, or walk is a great way to stay active and explore this great municipality all at the same time," says Andrew Younger, Councillor for District 6 (home of the Shubie Park/Fairbanks Centre where the launch is occurring on Saturday).
The initiative launch will include presentations, snacks, prizes, informative displays, and a hosted walk of the historic Fairbanks Centre/Shubie Park trail that will be great for the whole family. Through October 2007, at least one Saturday every month will feature a guided trail walk at different trails throughout HRM. HRM Trails wants you to Take a Hike with them!
As a key sponsor of Get Out, Check it out, Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection is pleased to partner with the municipality and recognizes the significant impact the initiative can have in encouraging residents of HRM to be more active, more often! The walking resource kit will be available at HRM recreation centres and libraries.
