Supervised Beach Program begins July 1st

(Thursday, June 28/07)-- HRM’s Summer Beach program begins this weekend, on Sunday, July 1st.

The program provides life guard supervision, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 24 beaches through the region during the summer season, as well as at the Halifax Commons swimming pool and the Bedford Lion’s Club pool.

Note: Springfield Lake in Sackville is currently closed to swimmers due to water quality problems.

Regular testing at the beach showed high bacteria levels in the lake water. “No Swimming” signs will be posted at the HRM supervised portion of the beach.

Halifax Regional Municipality is working with the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment to determine the cause of the contamination.

HRM thanks the public for its cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience.

The remaining 23 HRM supervised beaches are open to the public.
