Propane Leak - 11 Royals Avenue, Burnside

(Thursday, July 5, 2007)-- Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded to a propane leak today at 11 Royals Avenue, Burnside.

Firefigher crews arrived on the scene at 11:15 where a 13,000 litre propane delivery truck was leaking propane from the bottom of the truck while in for repairs.

Several attempts were made to replace the leaking valve and to offload the fuel, but were unsuccessful.

Nova Scotia Power has turned off the power in the immediate area and will remain off until the situation is under control.

Firefighters will remain on the scene for the next 2-3 hours while the propane is expelled and allowed to dissipate into the air.

Businesses in the surrounding 1/4 to ½ mile have been evacuated and will not be able to return to their businesses this afternoon.
